Individual Psychological Counselling
Individual counselling/therapy is helpful when you are in a state of chronic or intense unhappiness, discomfort, stress or anxiety, fear, fatigue, anger, hopelessness, etc...and you no longer want to be in that state. Individual therapy may be the first step toward positive change in your life. I have successfully worked with adolescents, adults and couples with the following issues:
-
Stress and Anxiety
-
Phobias (excessive fear)
-
Depression and Grief
-
Insomnia
-
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
-
Isolation and Loneliness
-
Addictive Behaviors
-
Relationship Issues
-
Parenting Issues (divorce, step-family)
-
Maladjustment to Change
-
School problems and learning disorders
There are over 400 different methods of psychological therapy. The research which studies the effectiveness of the therapies shows that they are all equally effective. However, the factor that determines the success of therapy is the quality of the relationship built between the therapist and client. Therefore, it is recommended that you meet the therapist in person for a first session to get a sense of whether the therapist is a good match for your personality and is experienced with the issues for which you need help.
You can read about the methods that I use in the Therapeutic Methods section.
Healing and change occur when the client is: ready to change; open to trying a different behavior; expressing and releasing repressed emotions; changing an irrational thought to a better-feeling thought; becoming aware of internal core issues and experiencing the missing experience; participating in the healing relationship with the therapist; or reconnecting with an estranged part of themselves or an estranged friend or family member.
Sessions are most effective when they are scheduled once per week until the symptoms have reduced, at which point there can be more time between sessions. Clients are responsible for scheduling follow-up sessions. My clients have the choice of scheduling a 60 or 90 minute session with me on my online calendar. Fees for the 90 minute sessions are 1.5 times the cost of the 60 minute sessions.
The fee for the first session is a fixed CHF 160 for 60 minutes. Starting with the second session, the fee can be chosen by the client on a sliding fee scale based on the client's ability to pay and the value of the sessions to the client. I use a sliding fee scale for two reasons; 1) I like to give my clients a choice, and 2) I want to make my services available to the widest income range possible. Someone who chooses a fee at the higher end of the scale allows me to work with those who can afford only the lowest fee.
More information about my fees, confidentiality and other topics can be found here on my Professional Services Agreement.
Your health insurance may reimburse part of your fee if you have the assurance complémentaire coverage. I am a member of the Swiss Fondation ASCA and my therapist number is RCC F437162. The health insurance companies collaborating with ASCA can be found here. You are respnsible for determining if your health insurance will reimburse part of the fee before you begin working with me. You may need to give the insurance company my name and my ASCA details. My ASCA certificate for 2020 is available here.
